In Curateurs, you step into the ornate halls of Paris in 1863 as a rival curator vying to assemble the most prestigious art exhibition. Hundreds of submitted paintings span varied formats and themes, but only the finest earn ribbons and prime wall space. Under the watchful eye of Emperor Napoleon III, your choices shapes your standing among elite curators. Across 12 rounds, players engage in simultaneous auctions using numbered cards and hammer tokens to get paintings. Each acquired painting is placed in your personal gallery grid, raising theme appreciation markers based on wall position and awarding medal ribbons for completed rows, columns or quadrants. Unselected works go to the Salon des Refusés, devaluing themes and granting bonus rewards. Individual goal cards and auction card totals add endgame points. The curator with the highest score emerges as the master of the Salon.
